Part search (advanced)

To use a recent CPL search, using the left navigation pane, click the twisty () to the left of the search type to expand the type of search and see your last five searches, and then click the desired search. Multiple search types can be expanded simultaneously in the left navigation pane. As many characters of the search criteria as possible appear, given the width of the navigation, and the screen resolution. Hover the cursor to display the search criteria. When you click a link to run the query, the query title moves to the top of the RECENT SEARCHES list.
Click Hide or Unhide to hide or show the left navigation menu into the left side of the page as depicted below.
Alternatively, searches can be saved so that they are not over-written by subsequent searches once the limit of five searches is reached, and so that the searches can be shared with other users in your group. Saved searches can be modified and saved with either a new name, or can overwrite the existing search. In order for you to see another search saved by a user in your group, they must save their search as Shared.
To select a saved search, click the Recall Searches drop-down list to the top-right of the screen and select the search to use as is, or to modify and use.

Click to transpose the data grid by switching columns into rows and rows into columns. Column filtering, sorting, and hiding functionality that is applied in the traditional view is preserved when the data grid is transposed. Filter, sort, and hide columns before transposing the data grid. data grid layouts can be applied when the data grid is transposed.

The transpose option is a toggle. Click it to turn transpose mode off and on.

If transposition truncates rows so that the entire row title no longer appears, an ellipsis (...) appears in the row header. Hover the cursor over the header of a truncated row to display the row header name in a tooltip.

The default row and column data type can be set by using the > Search Settings menu option, followed by the desired option in the Search Results > Results Grid Type pane.

Manufacturer Preferences

If your organization has loaded manufacturer preferences into BOM Intelligence, the following manufacturer preferences icons appear for parts where either the matched manufacturer or the unmatched imported manufacturer has an associated manufacturer preference. This icon indicates which part to pick in order to uphold the manufacturer preference levels in your organization:

- Approved

- Approval Required

- Not Approved

- Do Not Use

- Other

- None (if defined as such in the import file). You might set the status to None in your import file where you are only concerned about importing manufacturer names.

Hover your cursor over the icon to display the specific preference, and any comments in a tooltip.

For matched parts with a manufacturer preference, click the icon to display the Part Details modal window with the Manufacturer tab displayed. Hover over the Manufacturer Preference icon in the left navigation pane to display comments in a tooltip.

For unmatched parts with an imported manufacturer name that matches an imported manufacturer preference, the icon is not active, as there is no matched part for which to display the Part Details modal window.

Add parts to Workspace parts

Add results from a parts search to the My Workspace: Workspace Parts tab. Users with Regular status cannot add parts to workspace BOMs that they do not own.

Perform a search (Simple, Parts, or Parametric), and then click the check box () in the left-most cell of the part(s) to add.
Using the toolbar above the results grid, in the top-left click Add > Add to Workspace.
Provided that you have not exceeded the parts quota for My Workspace, the parts are automatically added to My Workspace. If you exceed the maximum of 10 parts, a modal window appears informing you that you can add up to x workspace items.

Add parts to Workspace BOMs or general BOMs

Add results from either the Parts or Parametric search tabs available under the SEARCH menu, or from a simple search () to a BOM in the My Workspace: Workspace BOMs tab or to a BOM using the BOM Vault. Users with Regular status cannot add parts to workspace BOMs that they do not own.

From the SEARCH menu, select either Parts or Parametric.
Complete the search (Parts or Parametric), and in the part search results, click the check box () in the left-most cell of the part(s) to add.
Using the toolbar above the results grid, in the top-left click Add > Add to BOM(s).

The Add to BOM(s) option is only active provided that at least one part is selected in the Search Results data grid.

The Add Selected Parts to BOM(s) modal window appears, listing details about the parts to add.
Click the arrow () in the right side of either (or a combination of both) of the following to add parts to BOMs found therein:

Select BOM(s) from Workspace - if there are BOMs in My Workspace, this pane is automatically expanded. This option does not allow you to select an indentured BOM. Use the BOM Vault option below where you can select the specific indenture level of a BOM.
Select BOM(s) from the BOM Vault- this pane is automatically expanded when there are no BOMs in the Workspace. Parts can be added to indentured BOMs using only this option, where you can select the specific indenture level at which to add the part.
Using the Select BOM(s) from the BOM Vault option, click to display the BOM Tree Filter modal window where you type criteria for a contains-style search of folder and BOM names. When you press Enter or click Go, results appear in the pane in the right of the modal window, which you click to navigate to the desired item. Where the results in a given entry exceed the allowable space in the BOM Tree Filter modal window, hover your cursor over the entry to display the full path and name in a pop-up.

Select the BOM(s) to add the selected part(s) to, and then click Add and return to results.
Click Cancel and return to results to dismiss the modal window and return to the parts search.

Filter data grid Results

Any filter conditions set using the Advanced Search page (with the exception of the Manufacturer Name filter condition) appear in the Common Filters shade. Filter conditions you set using either the Common Filters shade or the Advanced Search page are displayed the next time you open the Common Filters shade.

With the data grid displayed, click Filters.

The Common Filters shade appears.

Select the desired filter attributes to apply, and then click Search to re-run the search using the newly added criteria.

When attributes from the Common Filters shade or the Advanced Search page are applied to a search, the Common Filters label appears in the pane that appears above the header row of the data grid and below the data grid toolbar.

Click Common Filters in the pane above the data grid and below the data grid toolbar to display the Common Filters shade where you clear or select search attributes and then re-run your search. Select from the following options:

Part Status - select from one of the three types of statuses: Active; EOL; NRFND.

Compliance - for each of the regional compliance options —REACH, EU RoHS, China RoHS— select whether a certain compliance is required. Select ANY to indicate that no compliance indicators filter the search results.

Qualifications - specify whether parts comply with the global standard from the Automotive Electronics Council that defines stress resistance for passive electronic components, or with the Defense Logistics Agency criteria.

Temperature Grade - select from the following operating grade temperatures:

Compare selected parts

Using the data grid, click the check box next to the part search records to compare (). Select a minimum of two and a maximum of 10 records for comparison.
Click Compare Selected.

The Compare ... Parts modal window opens, and the part attributes for the selected records are displayed in a data grid. In the data grid, the attribute labels are the left-most column, followed by the first row you select in the results data grid, which is used as the baseline for comparison. The check box for the baseline part is selected in the data grid and its column header is highlighted.

Attributes that differ from the baseline are also highlighted.

If comparing three or more parts, select the records and click Remove to delete them from the comparison data grid.

The Mfr Suggested Replacements option in the toolbar above the data grid is enabled when the part displayed has manufacturer suggested replacements.

Using the Part Details modal window, click Mfr Suggested Replacements in the toolbar above the data grid to display the Manufacturer Suggested Replacements shade to view details for part replacements. Where the replacement part is matched to a part in the database, a hyperlink appears in the data grid that you click to display the Part Details for Part ... modal window for the linked item.

Add a Part Note

Launch the part note modal window when viewing a BOM in the BOM Tree Parts view, or in the View Single BOM: BOM Details tab.

Select the part for which to create or edit a part note (), and then click either Add > Add Part Note, or Modify > Edit Part Note. You cannot add a part note to more than one part at a time, and the above options remain inactive.

The Part Note modal window appears.

Click Add part notes for details on adding or changing part notes.

Export search results

Using the search results window, select the items to export from the results data grid by clicking the check box in the left-most column of the data grid ().
Click Export in the toolbar above the search results data grid.

The Export Part(s) modal window appears.

Select from the following:

Select which Parts to include in the Export - just the selected parts, which limits the parts to only those you selected. Or all of the parts in the order in which they appear in the search results data grid. BOM Intelligence limits the volume of parts that you can export to 1,000.
Select Export format - XLS (Microsoft Excel), CSV (Microsoft Excel and other ASCII text-based editors or spreadsheet software), or TXT (Microsoft Excel and other ASCII text-based editors).

Click Okay, export these parts.
The file is saved to your system with the file name, ihs_results.xyz, where xyz is the file format you selected above. The columns and column order exported match your current view, which is configured by selecting one of the pre-defined options from the layout drop-down list: Default Layout; Life Cycle Layout; Environmental Layout; Combined Layout.

Jump to different search segments

The following search types are available from both the SEARCH menu, and the left navigation menu:

Parts - part number or keyword. Filter by manufacturer name, part status, compliance, qualification, temperature grade, and whether the search item appears in the CPL.
Parametric - select related part attribute / value combinations of increasing granularity, which results in searches that only include valid combinations. Use this search when you do not know a specific part number.
Documents - search for information in the document type and document description fields of manufacturer documents in order to find specific content. Filter by document type and manufacturer name.
Where Used Parts - specify manufacture and part number search criteria in order to list the path for each location where a given part is used in BOMs.
Where Used Substances - specify a substance name or CAS search criteria to list the BOM path for each location where a substance is used.
Manufacturer - find specific manufacturer information in the database, including whether the manufacturer is approved, the total number of parts they provide, whether they include support, and a link to their website. Print or export this data.
CPL - search for specific CPL keywords in order to find specific content. This option only appears if a CPL is loaded.
Haystack - search for part and NSNs in the Haystack logistics database. This option only appears if your account is authorized to view Haystack data.

A twisty () appears to the left of the search segment name where a previous search has been done. Click the twisty to display the five most recent searches (from most to least recent), which you can click to automatically load.

If you switch between the different search segments listed above, or navigate away from the Search tab, the search criteria already added is lost. Click Hide to collapse the navigation panel.
