Research requests
Research requests are used to notify an Accuris research analyst that a discrepancy in part numbers in the database exists, or to request that a part be added. Automatic email notification and the ability to update research requests enable you to remain active in the request process.
Research requests can be initiated either using the menu in the toolbar of the main BOM Intelligence window, or by clicking Research Request in data grid toolbars and modal windows that display part or manufacturer details.

Display the Submit a Research Request for One Part modal window by clicking the Create Research Request option under the menu in the header, or from various locations in the application (see next procedure).
The Submit a Research Request for One Part modal window appears.
- Using the Request Type drop-down list, select the issue to which the research request pertains.
- If submitting a research request for a single part, you may fill the optional manufacturer's name or part description fields, or attach a file by clicking Browse, and then navigating to and attaching supporting documents or images to the request. Attach files of any file format.
File size cannot exceed 2 MB.
Fields denoted by the asterisk (*) character are mandatory.
- Specify contact details, and then click Submit my Research Request.

- With the Part Details for Part Number modal window displayed, click Research Request in the toolbar above the data grid.
- Using the Request Type drop-down list, select the issue to which the research request pertains.
The Submit a Research Request for One Part modal window appears.
- If submitting a research request for a single part, you may fill the optional manufacturer's name or part description fields, or attach a file by clicking Browse, and then navigating to and attaching supporting documents or images to the request. Attach files of any file format. File size cannot exceed 2 MB. The Manufacturer Name is automatically filled when the Research Request is invoked from the Part Details window.

- Specify contact details, and then click Submit my Research Request.

- Select up to 10 items in the data grid, and from the data grid toolbar, click Research Request to open the Submit a Research Request for Multiple Parts modal window.
- Using the Request Type drop-down list, select the issue to which the research request pertains, and type your request in the Describe your request here box.
- Specify contact details, and then click Submit my Research Request.

Using the My Research Requests (Management) page, view, sort and filter, and export the status and details of research requests you submitted.
The My Research Requests (Management) page appears. Rows in this list include requests you submitted and requests to which you have access.
The first three columns in the data grid, which are locked so that you can horizontally scroll the columns to the right of these, are as follows:
- Status - the present status of the request: In Progress, Unassigned, Closed.
- Request ID - the ID number automatically assigned to the request.
- Application - where you have access to more than one Accuris Technology Parts application (CAPS Universe, BOM Intelligence, and BOM Manager) this column shows from which application the request originated.
A maximum of 10 rows per page appear. This number cannot be changed.
- Modify the display using common result grid functionality: pagination, column and row selection, sort, hide, resize, and filter functionality.
- To display and change details for a specific request that is displayed in this page, click the hyper-linked Request ID to display the Research Request ID ... modal window.
- Select from the following options in the pane on the left side of the Research Request ID... modal window. Details for the option currently selected are displayed in the pane on the right side of the Research Request ID... modal window:
- Research Request Details - view details about the request.
- Add Comment - type a comment or attach a file that provides additional information to the research request effort. Comments and attached files are visible using the Comment History view. A check box at the bottom of the Research Request ID... modal window enables you to select whether BOM Intelligence sends an email message (the default behavior) to the BOM Intelligence user account associated with the research request when the status of the research request changes. After you click Submit Comment for either a comment or attached file, BOM Intelligence automatically displays the Comment History tab described below.
- Comment History - view the history of actions and comments that occurred over the life cycle of this research request, and view any files attached to the research request. Hover the cursor over the Comments cell in order to display the full comment in a tooltip.
- Escalate - type a comment that appears in the Comment History view. Typically, this message informs the Accuris research analyst that the matter is urgent.
- See Attachments - where an attachment accompanies a research request, the hyper-linked text, See Attachments appears in the highlighted yellow banner in the top of the Research Request ID modal window, which you can click to open the attached file.
- Click Okay to close the Research Request ID... modal window.

Using the My Research Requests (Management) page, change the status of a request submitted to either Closed (if the research request is open), or Re-Open (if the research request is closed).
The My Research Requests (Management) page appears. Rows in this list include requests you submitted and requests to which you have access. The status of each of the research requests appears in the left-most column, and includes one of the following states: Closed, Unassigned, or In Progress.
- Click the Request ID of the research request for which to change the status to display the Research Request ID ... modal window.
- In the top-right of the Research Request ID... modal window, select one of the following options:
- Change Status to Closed - to signify that the research request is resolved.
- Change Status to Re-Open - to signify that the research request is not resolved. Initially, the status of the research request is Unassigned until assigned to an Accuris research analyst.
- Click Okay.

Using the My Research Requests (Management) page, export research request(s) submitted so that you have a local electronic record of the activity that has taken place. Research requests can be exported in XLS, CSV, and tab-delimited TXT formats.
The My Research Requests (Management) page appears. Rows in this list include requests you submitted and requests to which you have access.
- In the top-left of the My Research Requests (Management) page, click Export to display the Export Research Requests modal window.
- Using the Export Research Requests modal window, select the desired format of the file in which to export research request details for all of the rows displayed in the My Research Requests (Management) page, and then click Okay, export these records.
The file is exported and named ResearchRequestResultsExport.XYZ, where XYZ is the file format selected above (XLS, CSV, TXT).
