BOM details

BOM details lists all the parts that make up the Bill of Materials. For each BOM part, the part data either imported with the BOM, or retrieved from the BOM Intelligence S&P Global Parts database is listed. The Matched P/N links to complete part details; the Internal Part Number links to the AML.

CPL Data

If CPLs are enabled in your BOM Intelligence implementation and a CPL has been imported, you can create or modify a custom layout so that CPL attributes appear in the BOM Details data grid. Where a BOM is matched to a CPL part, the Match Type column in the data grid displays CPL and the corporate part attribute values are populated from the preferred part record in the matched CPL part.

Where the BOM part is matched to a reference part, click the Part Number to display the Part Details modal window, and then click CPL in the left hand navigation pane to display other CPL parts. Using the data grid, click the CPL hyperlink to display the Corporate Part Number Data modal window.

BOM Details data grid

The BOM details data grid lists a default set of data for all parts in the selected BOM. Using this data, navigate to other areas in BOM Intelligence, such as part details to view detailed information on a specific part, or the BOMs tree to view other BOMs. Organize the data grid by applying data filters, setting column visibility, and by selecting specific data layouts.

Life Cycle

The life cycle data window gives you information on parts obsolescence management.

Here are the different life cycle statuses:

Active - Actively manufactured.

End of Life - Part not recommended for new designs.

Part not recommended for new designs.

Discontinued - Not available.

Reactivated - An active part that was previously categorized as either End of Life, or Discontinued.

Life cycle risk

Obsolescence management can reduce the risk of acquiring counterfeit electronic parts. S&P Global provides life cycle risk scoring to help you proactively manage the life cycle of parts.

The life cycle risk score is calculated using information from the part status attribute.

Score	Definition
Low	Part status is Active.
Med	Part status is Active-Unconfirmed, NRFND, Contact-Mfr, or Transferred.
High	Part status is EOL or Discontinued.

The life cycle risk score links to information on the following attributes:

Life cycle attribute
Life cycle stage	A textual representation of the life cycle stage of a part. Values are Introduction, Growth, Mature, Phase-Out, and Discontinued.
Availability YTEOL	Indicator for the availability of a part defined as a range of years. The Years to End of Life YTEOL appears as a text string using greater than and less than indicators.
Smart Alert prediction date	Indicates when the life cycle information for this manufacturer and technology group was last predicted. Parts and Manufacturers have different review cycles based upon several factors such as how the part is classified.
Life cycle information source	Identifies the source of the life cycle information. Values can be IHS, IHS/Manufacturer, and Manufacturer.
Life cycle code	A numerical code from 1 to 5 that correlates to the Life Cycle Stage. A value of 1 indicates Introduction and a value of 5 indicates Discontinued.
Estimated YTEOL	A numerical representation for estimated years to end of life as of the Smart Alert prediction date.
Current Estimated YTEOL	A numerical representation for estimated years to end of life calculated using a combination of Estimated YTEOL+ Smart Alert prediction date+ Current date. This attribute is only calculated for parts that have both estimated YTEOL and life cycle prediction data values.

Risk (LC, ENV, SC, AML)- a risk score in one of the risk columns: LC; ENV; SC . Use the risk scores to open a modal window listing the attributes, and attribute values associated with the risk type. Information on how these attributes are used to calculate the risk score is also provided. The AML risk is set by the BOM cleansing process and it is the best life cycle risk score of all of the parts on the AML.
Internal Part Number - click to launch the AML for Internal Part modal window, where you view a list of AML parts for an internal part. Internal Part Numbers only appear as hyperlinks providing that the Use Internal Part Number to Build AML option is set to YES in the > BOM Import Settings > Default Options.
Matched P/N - open the Part Details modal window with the Part Details accordion expanded by default.
Matched Mfr - open the Part Details modal window with the Manufacturer accordion expanded by default.
BOM Path - click this hyperlink to navigate to a specific folder or BOM in the BOM Hierarchy pane of the BOM Tree view. This link represents either the path to the folder that contains the BOM, or the indentured structure of the displayed BOM.
The above describes navigational elements that appear in the data grid. For descriptions of other data that appears in the data grid, see Single BOM details data.

Add Part

Using the toolbar that appears above the results view, click Add > Add Part.
This option is available when you are the BOM owner, or a user with User Administrator or Group Administrator permissions.

The Add a Part shade appears.

Select from one of the following three tabs:

Search for a Part

Select search criteria (starts with, contains, exact part, or keyword).

The options available in the Search for a Part tab change to match the search criteria you specify.

Exact Part # - search returns part numbers that match the full search term, exactly as entered. For example, '2n2222ab-1' matches '2N2222AB-1'. Select whether to ignore special characters (~ $ ` ' @ % ^ & ( ) - _ = { } \ [ ] : ; < > / " ? .). Commas (,) and number characters (#) are not considered special characters in this instance, as they are often found in part numbers.
When you type at least three characters, a drop-down panel appears that provides up to five items that match your search criteria. Mouse over or use the arrow keys to highlight an item in the list, and then click or press Enter to post it to the Search box. This type-ahead functionality is only enabled if Ignore Special Characters is checked. You can search for up to 25 parts using the Boolean OR operator between search terms.

Part # Starts With - search returns part numbers that start with the search term. An example of search results for ‘lm339n’ returns matching part numbers such as 'LM339N1', and 'LM339N-500'. Type-ahead functionality is enabled, and you can search for up to 25 parts using the Boolean OR operator between search terms.

Part # Contains - search returns part numbers that contain the search term. An example of search results for 'bp101ah' returns matching part numbers such as '05007-BP101AHU-T', '05006-BP101AHULB', and '03028-BP101AHM-I'. The search term must contain at least four alphanumeric characters. Special characters are automatically ignored for this type of search. Type-ahead functionality is not available, nor is the Boolean OR term, and the search field supports a maximum of 85 characters.

Keyword Search - search returns matches found in an item’s description.
Keyword search options are:
All (all search terms entered must be found in item descriptions);
Any (any of the search terms found in item descriptions return results);
Exact (only the exact search term entered and found in an item's description returns a result).

For example, a search using the "Any" operator for 'ddr3 memory' returns matches such as 'MEMORY SOCKET FOR DDR3 SO-DIMM'. The search term must contain at least four alphanumeric characters. Special characters are ignored for this type of search. Type-ahead functionality is not available.

Type the part numbers or keywords to search for.

Suggestions on how to use each feature appear in the blue pane in the lower portion of the Search for a Part tab.

Click Search to retrieve results.

The Add a Part modal window is populated with the search results on the right side of the shade.

Click Reset to return to clear the search criteria entered.
Click icons or hyper-links that appear in a row in order to display the Part Details modal window or other modal windows and documents that provide further details about a matched search result.

Click in the left-most cell () of a row that displays a part to add to the BOM.

In the bottom-right of the Add a Part modal window, click either Add part(s),
OR
Save, and add more parts.

Edit AML for IPN

Using the toolbar that appears above the data grid, click Add > Add Part.
This option is available when you are the BOM owner, or a user with User Administrator or Group Administrator permissions.

The Add a Part shade appears.

Select from one of the following three tabs:

Search for a Part

Select search criteria (starts with, contains, exact part, or keyword).

The options available in the Search for a Part tab change to match the search criteria you specify.

Type the part numbers or keywords to search for.

Suggestions on how to use each feature appear in the blue pane in the lower portion of the Search for a Part tab.

Click Search to retrieve results.

The Add a Part modal window is populated with the search results on the right side of the shade.

Click Reset to return to clear the search criteria entered.
Click icons or hyper-links that appear in a row in order to display the Part Details modal window or other modal windows and documents that provide further details about a matched search result.

Click in the left-most cell () of a row that displays a part to add to the BOM.

In the bottom-right of the Add a Part modal window, click either Save Part(s),

Save and add another part.

Generate reports

Select the BOM(s) for which to generate a report and then do the following:

Click Generate a Report.

The Generate a Report window appears with the Step 1 pane expanded. Click the twisties ( and ) that appear in the top-right of the Step 1, 2, 3, and 4 panels in order to expand or collapse each panel.

In the left portion of Step 1 of the Generate Report window are standard reports. In the right portion of Step 1 of the Generate Report window are advanced reports, which include custom report templates created by users within your account group.

Select the desired report type as follows:

Standard Reports - hover the cursor over a given report thumbnail to display a pop-up sample of that report. Click the thumbnail to display a detailed sample for closer inspection. This sample can be viewed online, printed, or downloaded. Select the radio button below the thumbnail of the desired report.
Advanced Reports - click the check box in the left-most cell () of the row that lists the desired report. Only a single report can be selected at a time.
The left-most column is locked so that columns to the right of it can be scrolled horizontally for additional detail. Reports can be downloaded in CSV, XLS, or XLSX format.

If working with pre-selected BOMs, which are one or more BOMs that you selected before clicking Generate Report using either the BOM Vault: View All BOMs, BOM Tree, BOM Tree Parts, or View Single BOM windows, you may skip step 3 —unless you want to review or change the selected BOM(s).

Click Go To Step 2, which appears in the bottom-right of the Step 1 pane.
Type a name for the report in the New Report Name box, and then click Go to Step 3, which appears in the bottom-right of the Step 2 pane.
Note: Only numbers (1-10), letters (a A, b B, c C, etc.), spaces, underscores (_), and dashes (-) can appear in a report name. Other ASCII characters generate an error report when you try to open the report generated.

The content displayed in the Step 3 pane differs depending on whether you selected a BOM(s) upon which to base your report (using the BOM Vault: View All BOMs, BOM Tree, BOM Tree Parts, or View Single BOM windows), or started a report from scratch using the Reports option in the main toolbar:

If creating a report from scratch, the BOM Tree is displayed in Step 3, so that you can select the BOM(s) upon which to report.
Click to display the BOM Tree Filter modal window where you type at least three characters as criteria for a contains-style search of folder and BOM names. When you press Enter or click Go, results appear in the pane in the right of the modal window, which you click to navigate to the desired item. Where the results in a given entry exceed the allowable space in the BOM Tree Filter modal window, hover your cursor over the entry to display the full path and name in a pop-up.
If generating a report for an indentured BOM, the BOM Hierarchy pane appears in the left side of the window, where you click to expand the BOM, assemblies, and sub-assemblies in order to understand the internal hierarchy of the indentured BOM.
If you already selected a BOM before clicking Generate Report, a data grid displaying details for that BOM appears instead of the BOM Tree control. If you change the BOMs for which the report is being generated, then the BOM Tree control appears. The BOM Tree grid includes filtering functionality.

Using the results grid that appears in the Step 3 pane, navigate across multiple pages using the pagination controls.

If working with a pre-selected list, to change the BOMs included in this report, click Add or Remove BOMs for this Report, which appears in the top-left of the Step 3 pane, to display the BOM Tree grid in the Step 3 pane. Click the check box in the left-most cell () of the rows that display the BOM(s) or folders to include, and clear the left-most cell of undesired items currently selected.
Click Go to Step 4, and then type or select filter details to apply to the report data.
Click the Include All AML Parts check box to include all AML parts in the report, not just the preferred parts.

For filters such as Part Status, Life Cycle Stage, and Availability, click to select one or more attribute terms from each popup list, the terms remain highlighted until you either click them again to clear them from the selection, or click Done to add them to the criteria. Multiple attributes in one of the above fields are considered appended with an OR Boolean operand.

If adding a filter using the Search for Manufacturers field, type one or more sequential characters that appear in the manufacturer name to access BOM Intelligence type-ahead functionality, and then select a name from the list to add it to the criteria. Click the X that appears to the right of the manufacturer name to remove it from the list.

Click Generate my report.

This button is disabled if you selected more than one BOM and the Standard Report: Single BOM Dashboard type. Either select only a single BOM in Step 3, or select a different report type in Step 1 in order to enable this button.
