My Workspace
Add BOMs and parts to a view called My Workspace. For BOMs, My Workspace consists of both a page, which is accessed by clicking MY WORKSPACE in the top-right of the main BOM Intelligence page, and a navigation pane labeled Workspace BOMs that appears on the left side of the main page when using the View Single BOM, BOM Vault, BOM Tree, and BOM Tree Parts pages. Both of these options provide access to the exact same BOMs.
Parts added to My Workspace are accessed using the MY WORKSPACE option in the top-right of the main
BOM Intelligence page, instead of from the pane that appears on the left side of the main page, and they appear in the Workspace Parts tab.
Items in My Workspace can be annotated, compared (parts), exported, and drawn from when adding parts to BOMs or when launching BOMs.
BOMs that are added to My Workspace are bolded in datagrids throughout BOM Intelligence until they are removed from the MY WORKSPACE page or Workspace BOMs side pane.

- In the top-right of the main BOM Intelligence page, click MY WORKSPACE.
- Workspace BOMs - click the hyperlink that appears in the BOM Name cell to display the Single BOM View page with the Details tab displayed.
- Workspace Parts - click the hyperlink that appears in the Part Number cell to display the Part Details modal page with the Part Details option selected. Click the Manufacturer Name cell value to display the Part Details modal window with the Manufacturer option selected.
- Select from the following options:
- Either double-click the Workspace Comments box, or click the
to type details about a BOM or part, and then press the Enter key to save the comment. Hover the cursor over the Workspace Comments field to display the comment text in a tooltip popup.
- Export - a file containing all of the items and all of the fields displayed in the data grid is downloaded in XLS format to your PC. The file is named either IHS_Workspace_BOM.XLS or IHS_Workspace_Parts.XLS depending on the tab that's currently displayed.
- Remove from Workspace - click the left-most cell (
) of the undesired BOMs or parts, and then click Remove from My Workspace.
The Confirm Removal from My Workspace modal window appears.
Click Yes, remove selected to proceed,
OR
Click Cancel, do not remove (or click X in the top-right of the modal window) in order to cancel the operation.
If the selected items are removed, the BOMs or parts no longer appear in the My Workspace page, or in the Workspace BOMs section in the BOM Vault. - Click
in the right of a column header to access column formatting options.
The My Workspace page appears.
The page consists of two tabs:

When using the View All BOMs, BOM Tree, or BOM Tree Parts windows, the Workspace BOMs pane appears in the panel to the left of the results view and can be expanded () or collapsed (
). A maximum of ten BOMs that you added during either the current session or during prior sessions appear in the Workspace BOMs pane.
Click a BOM that appears in the Workspace BOMs pane to display it in the View Single BOM window. Folders cannot be added to the Workspace.
To remove an item from the Workspace BOMs pane, click x that appears to the right of the name of the undesired BOM. This only removes the BOM from the Workspace BOMs pane. It does not delete it from BOM Intelligence.
To add a selected BOM to the Workspace, using the toolbar that appears immediately above the data grid, select Add > Add to Workspace. Folders cannot be added to the Workspace. When a folder is selected, the Add to Workspace option is disabled.
The Part Standardization option above is only active if at least one BOM is selected.

Add results from a parts search to the My Workspace: Workspace Parts tab. Users with Regular status cannot add parts to workspace BOMs that they do not own.
- Perform a search (Simple, Parts, or Parametric), and then click the check box (
) in the left-most cell of the part(s) to add.
- Using the toolbar above the results grid, in the top-left click Add > Add to Workspace.
- Provided that you have not exceeded the parts quota for My Workspace, the parts are automatically added to My Workspace. If you exceed the maximum of 10 parts, a modal window appears informing you that you can add up to x workspace items.
Parts can also be added to the My Workspace: Workspace Parts tab using the Alternates for Part Number modal window.

Add Parts or Parametric search results to a BOM in the My Workspace: Workspace BOMs tab or to a BOM using the BOM Vault. Users with Regular status cannot add parts to workspace BOMs that they do not own.
- From the SEARCH menu, select either Parts or Parametric.
- Complete the search (Parts or Parametric), and in the part search results, click the check box (
) in the left-most cell of the part(s) to add.
- Using the toolbar above the results grid, in the top-left click Add > Add to BOM(s).
The Add to BOM(s) option is only active provided that at least one part is selected in the Search Results data grid.
- The Add Selected Parts to BOM(s) modal window appears, listing details about the parts to add.
- Click the arrow (
) in the right side of either (or a combination of both) of the following to add parts to BOMs found therein:
- Select BOM(s) from Workspace - if there are BOMs in My Workspace, this pane is automatically expanded. This option does not allow you to select an indentured BOM. Use the BOM Vault option below where you can select the specific indenture level of a BOM.
- Select BOM(s) from the BOM Vault- this pane is automatically expanded when there are no BOMs in the Workspace. Parts can be added to indentured BOMs using only this option, where you can select the specific indenture level at which to add the part.
Using the Select BOM(s) from the BOM Vault option, clickto display the BOM Tree Filter modal window where you type criteria for a contains-style search of folder and BOM names. When you press Enter or click Go, results appear in the pane in the right of the modal window, which you click to navigate to the desired item. Where the results in a given entry exceed the allowable space in the BOM Tree Filter modal window, hover your cursor over the entry to display the full path and name in a pop-up.
- Select the BOM(s) to add the selected part(s) to, and then click Add and return to results.
Click Cancel and return to results to dismiss the modal window and return to the parts search.

Add up to ten processed BOMs to the Workspace.
- Using the BOM Summary, or View All BOMs data grid views, click the check box (
) in the left-most cell of the row(s) that contain the BOM(s) to add to My Workspace.
- Using the toolbar that appears immediately above the results grid, select Add > Add to Workspace.
The Add to Workspace option above is only active if at least one BOM is selected. If the combination of the BOMs currently in the workspace and the BOM(s) selected above exceed ten items, the Add BOMs to Workspace dialog displays a warning message.

Generate a report for BOMs in the Workspace directly from the Workspace after selecting the BOMs for which to generate a report.
- Click Generate a Report.
The Generate a Report window appears with the Step 1 pane expanded. Click the twisties ( and
) that appear in the top-right of the Step 1, 2, 3, and 4 panels in order to expand or collapse each panel.
- Select the desired report type as follows:
- Standard Reports - hover the cursor over a given report thumbnail to display a pop-up sample of that report. Click the thumbnail to display a detailed sample for closer inspection. This sample can be viewed online, printed, or downloaded. Select the radio button below the thumbnail of the desired report.
- Advanced Reports - click the check box in the left-most cell (
) of the row that lists the desired report. Only a single report can be selected at a time.
The left-most column is locked so that columns to the right of it can be scrolled horizontally for additional detail. Reports can be downloaded in CSV, XLS, or XLSX format.
If working with pre-selected BOMs, which are one or more BOMs that you selected before clicking Generate Report using either the BOM Vault: View All BOMs, BOM Tree, BOM Tree Parts, or View Single BOM windows, you may skip step 3 —unless you want to review or change the selected BOM(s).
- Click Go To Step 2, which appears in the bottom-right of the Step 1 pane.
- Type a name for the report in the New Report Name box, and then click Go to Step 3, which appears in the bottom-right of the Step 2 pane.
Note: Only numbers (1-10), letters (a A, b B, c C, etc.), spaces, underscores (_), and dashes (-) can appear in a report name. Other ASCII characters generate an error report when you try to open the report generated.
The content displayed in the Step 3 pane differs depending on whether you selected a BOM(s) upon which to base your report (using the BOM Vault: View All BOMs, BOM Tree, BOM Tree Parts, or View Single BOM windows), or started a report from scratch using the Reports option in the main toolbar:
- If creating a report from scratch, the BOM Tree is displayed in Step 3, so that you can select the BOM(s) upon which to report.
Clickto display the BOM Tree Filter modal window where you type at least three characters as criteria for a contains-style search of folder and BOM names. When you press Enter or click Go, results appear in the pane in the right of the modal window, which you click to navigate to the desired item. Where the results in a given entry exceed the allowable space in the BOM Tree Filter modal window, hover your cursor over the entry to display the full path and name in a pop-up.
- If generating a report for an indentured BOM, the BOM Hierarchy pane appears in the left side of the window, where you click
to expand the BOM, assemblies, and sub-assemblies in order to understand the internal hierarchy of the indentured BOM.
- If you already selected a BOM before clicking Generate Report, a data grid displaying details for that BOM appears instead of the BOM Tree control. If you change the BOMs for which the report is being generated, then the BOM Tree control appears. The BOM Tree grid includes filtering functionality.
- Using the results grid that appears in the Step 3 pane, navigate across multiple pages using the pagination controls.
- If working with a pre-selected list, to change the BOMs included in this report, click Add or Remove BOMs for this Report, which appears in the top-left of the Step 3 pane, to display the BOM Tree grid in the Step 3 pane. Click the check box in the left-most cell (
) of the rows that display the BOM(s) or folders to include, and clear the left-most cell of undesired items currently selected.
- Click Go to Step 4, and then type or select filter details to apply to the report data.
- Click the Include All AML Parts check box to include all AML parts in the report, not just the preferred parts.
For filters such as Part Status, Life Cycle Stage, and Availability, click to select one or more attribute terms from each popup list, the terms remain highlighted until you either click them again to clear them from the selection, or click Done to add them to the criteria. Multiple attributes in one of the above fields are considered appended with an OR Boolean operand.
If adding a filter using the Search for Manufacturers field, type one or more sequential characters that appear in the manufacturer name to access BOM Intelligence type-ahead functionality, and then select a name from the list to add it to the criteria. Click the X that appears to the right of the manufacturer name to remove it from the list.

- Using the data grid, click the check box next to the part search records to compare (
). Select a minimum of two and a maximum of 10 records for comparison.
- Click Compare Selected.
- For information on formatting and working with columns, see data grid features.
The Compare ... Parts modal window opens, and the part attributes for the selected records are displayed in a data grid. In the data grid, the attribute labels are the left-most column, followed by the first row you select in the results data grid, which is used as the baseline for comparison. The check box for the baseline part is selected in the data grid and its column header is highlighted.
Attributes that differ from the baseline are also highlighted.
If comparing three or more parts, select the records and click Remove to delete them from the comparison data grid.
